Welcome to the Virtual Vigilance.com thermal camera users guide.  You are about to embark on a technological journey that will both amaze you and help protect our great nation! Use of this device is simple, but there are a few basic rules that all of our users must follow to ensure a quality experience and to ensure the equipment is not damaged.

First and formost, you must gain access to the system. This is usually accomplished simply by clicking on the link and opening the viewing page from your internet explorer browser. The first time you connect to our camera system, your computer will be asked to install an "ActiveX" control. An "ActiveX" control is a small script that allows your web browser to interact with and display our camera video feed inside a window in your browser. When you first connect to the camera system, you will see an information bar appear at the top of your browser window.

Click on the bar (see red arrow in picture above), and you should see a drop down box appear.

Go ahead and click on the "Install ActiveX Control" heading. (This control has been thoroughly tested by us and is in no way a security danger to your computer system)

Once that's done, you should be able to start using the system, but............

There are circumstances that might prohibit your connection. The most common of these occurs when internet explorer's security settings are too high. For those of you experiencing connectivity issues, the resolution is usually simple.

If you see a security warning similar to the one shown above, don't panic, it'll be alright. First, click "OK" and your window will close. Next, you're going to want to change the security settings of your Internet Explorer window. First, you'll want to click on the tools menu at the top of your explorer window.

There you'll see a drop down box , click on the "Internet Options" selection.

This should open the "Internet Options" Window. Once that is open, click on the "Security" tab at the top of the window.

Then click on the "Custom Level" button at the bottom of the window.

This will bring you to a window containing a list of security options pertaining to Internet Explorer. As seen in the image below, you want to scroll down the list and find the entry labled "Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls". There are three options under this heading, you will want to select "Prompt", and then click "OK".

Close out all of your windows and try logging on to the URL for the camera again.

You should now be able to install the "ActiveX" script and view the camera.
